We are fortunate to have a wide variety of Fungi in the UK.They usually occur at specific times of the year and are found across the UK.
Fungi
Unlike plants, fungi cannot gain their energy directly from the sun by photosynthesis. Instead they have had to develop other ways to feed. A few fungi feed off living trees or plants. These fungi are parasites, and they have a vital role in natural woodland. But the majority of fungi are decomposers or live in symbiosis with plants. The decomposer fungi break down dead wood and other plant and animal matter.
